A first-aid course is mandatory for all driving license classes and must be completed once in order to be able to present the certificate of participation for the driver’s license application. The course lasts 9 lessons of 45 minutes each, so a total of about 7.5 hours. It is advisable to refresh the knowledge acquired regularly, although the certificate is valid for life.

- duty:The course is mandatory for all driving license classes, including motorcycle, car, truck and bus driver’s licenses.
- Content:The course provides life-saving emergency measures, such as stable lateral position, heart-lung resuscitation, wound care and correct behavior in the event of an accident.
- Duration:The course includes 9 lessons of 45 minutes each, which usually takes a whole day.
- Validity:The certificate of participation is valid for life, but a refresher knowledge is recommended.
- cost:The costs for the course can vary depending on the provider, but are often between 20 and 40 euros.
- Provider:There are many different providers, like this German Red Cross (DRK), the Malteser Hilfsdienst, the Johanniter and the ADAC. It is advisable to check the reputation of the provider in advance.
- refresh:Although the certificate is valid for life, it is recommended to refresh the knowledge every 2-3 years.
Additional notes:
- In some cases, it can make sense to complete the course as first aiders in the company or for other purposes. For the driver’s license application, the certificate of participation in the first aid course must be submitted together with the eye test and the passport photo.
