Trailer License Munich: Class BE & B96

Heavy Weights.
Small Hurdles.

No theory, no stress. Upgrade your car driver’s license to Class BE – for caravans, horse trailers, or heavy loads. Flexible, professional, and transparently calculated.

Weights & Regulations

What am I allowed to tow?

The decisive factor for the trailer license is not the actual weight of the trailer (empty weight + payload), but exactly the sum of the permissible total mass (GVWR) entered in the vehicle documents.

The Standard

Class B

The regular car driver’s license allows small trailers.

  • Trailers up to 750 kg GVWR (always allowed)
  • Heavier trailers, provided the combination (car + trailer) weighs max. 3,500 kg.
Max. combination weight (car + trailer) 3,500 kg
One-Day Course

Class B96

Ideal for lighter caravans or transport trailers.

  • Extends the total mass of the combination beyond the 3,500 kg limit of the Class B license.
  • No real exam at TÜV, just a driver training program at the driving school.
Max. combination weight (car + trailer) 4,250 kg

Frequently Asked Questions
About the Trailer License in Munich

Do I need theory lessons for the BE license?
No. The training for Class BE and also for the B96 extension consists exclusively of the practical driving part. Since you already hold a Class B driver’s license, the theory lessons and thus the theoretical driving exam are omitted.
How many lessons do I need for Class BE?
The law prescribes a mandatory 5 special drives (mandatory lessons) for Class BE. These are divided into 3 cross-country drives, 1 highway drive, and 1 drive in the dark (formerly night drive). In addition, you need regular practice lessons to learn the safe handling of the combination (maneuvering, coupling, uncoupling) for the exam. The number of practice lessons depends individually on your learning progress.
What can I drive with the B96 extension?
The B96 extension is not an independent driver’s license, but an extension of Class B (represented by the key number 96 in the license). This allows you to drive a combination (car + trailer) with a permissible total mass (GVWR) of more than 3,500 kg, but maximum 4,250 kg. B96 is ideal for small to medium-sized caravans or horse trailers with only one horse. You do not take a TÜV exam for this; instead, after driver training with us, you will receive a certificate for registration at the driver’s license office.
