How your ASF seminar works – step by step
No need to worry about "classroom lessons." The ASF is an open exchange of experiences – no exam, no grading. 4 sessions, one goal: keeping your driver's license.
Session 1 – Introduction & Analysis
Getting started together: We openly discuss the traffic situations that led to the order. No judgment, no interrogation – an honest exchange of experiences within the group.
Observation Drive – No Exam
Between session 1 and 2, we drive together. The instructor observes your driving style but does not intervene. The results feed into the group evaluation – there is no failing.
Sessions 2 & 3 – Evaluation & In-Depth Training
We evaluate the observation drive together and go deeper into hazard perception. Concrete strategies on how to better recognize and avoid critical situations in everyday traffic.
Session 4 – Completion & Certificate
The final session. Afterwards, you receive your official certificate of participation according to § 2a StVG – ready to present to the driver's license authority immediately.

How long does the ASF seminar take in total?
The seminar consists of 4 mandatory sessions of approx. 135 minutes each, plus an individual observation drive (approx. 30 min.). The sessions are spread over several weeks.

How much time do I have – and what happens if I miss the deadline?
The authority sets you a deadline – the date is stated in your official letter. If you miss it or fail to appear, your driver's license will be revoked. You will no longer be allowed to drive any vehicle. Reinstatement is only possible after presenting the certificate of participation. Therefore, book as early as possible.
Can I continue driving during the seminar?
Yes – as long as your driver's license has not been officially confiscated by the authorities, your driving privilege remains valid. You may also drive yourself to the observation drive.
What is the difference between ASF and MPU?
The ASF (remedial seminar for new drivers) is ordered during the probation period and is not a psychological test. The MPU, on the other hand, is a medical-psychological assessment for more serious offences. The ASF does not replace an MPU.
How long does the probation period last after the ASF?
By participating in the seminar, the probation period is extended once from 2 to 4 years. The counter does not restart – the time already served is counted.
