Everything you need to know about the Class C1 driver's license in Munich ▼
The Class C1 driver's license in Munich is your key to vehicles in the 3,500 to 7,500 kg weight range — the segment a normal car license (Class B) simply does not cover. With C1 you may also pull a small trailer up to 750 kg, and with the Class C1E extension you can hitch a heavier trailer over 750 kg for a total combination of up to 12,000 kg. Whether you drive an ambulance (RTW), a smaller fire engine, a heavy motorhome or a delivery vehicle over 3.5 tonnes for your trade, we guide you from your very first theory lesson to the practical test on our modern IVECO fleet, including the IVECO Daily. As an IHK-registered training company founded in 1994, Peters Driving School trains you at three Munich locations — Munich-Haidhausen, Munich-Giesing and Haar, our dedicated truck training site. If you ever need even more capacity, the bigger trucks over 7.5 tonnes are covered by our Class C truck license.
The C1 license is essential for the rescue service and fire brigade. Most emergency ambulances (RTW) already exceed 3.5 tonnes fully equipped, so emergency medical technicians and paramedics legally need Class C1 to get behind the wheel. The same applies to smaller fire engines and crew transport vehicles at volunteer and professional fire brigades, as well as to THW operations. Because we know how much these everyday heroes give, we offer an exclusive emergency-services discount to active members of the fire brigade, rescue service and THW — including BRK/Red Cross, ASB, DLRG, Malteser and Johanniter. There is a practical bonus, too: if you are an active rescue-service member, your medical-service training is usually recognised as the required first-aid proof on presentation of a certificate, so you can save yourself the separate large first-aid course.
C1 is also the smart choice for trades, businesses and motorhome owners. Electricians, carpenters and local logistics firms rely on a large Sprinter, refrigerated van or delivery vehicle over 3.5 tonnes — and only Class C1 keeps you legal at that weight. For camper and motorhome drivers, the case is just as clear: with water tanks, luggage and passengers, many modern motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes are quick to tip over the limit, and driving overloaded on a car license risks heavy fines and a loss of insurance cover. With C1 you are legally safe against overloading on every trip. Good to know: Code 95 is only required for commercial freight transport — for ambulance and emergency driving or private motorhome use, you do not need it. The C1 and C1E licenses are valid for 5 years and are simply renewed with a medical and eyesight report, with no new test.
Our clear tip is to take the combined C1 + C1E course: you complete only 8 mandatory special drives instead of 10, saving two full lessons, and with your existing C1 no separate theory exam is needed for C1E. The minimum age is 18, and you will need your prior Class B license, a medical report and an eyesight test certificate. Class C1 training starts from approximately €1,500 as a minimum price, with the final figure depending on how many driving lessons you need — use our cost calculator for a transparent estimate, or simply get in touch and we will plan everything in parallel, including the roughly 8–10 week processing time at the Munich licensing authority (KVR). We train across Munich & the surrounding region: Haidhausen • Au • Giesing • Harlaching • Ramersdorf • Perlach • Berg am Laim • Trudering • Riem • Haar • Vaterstetten • Baldham. Our branches are conveniently connected to the U-Bahn and S-Bahn for students from across the entire city.
