Frequently Asked Questions about Theory Classes
How many theory lessons do I need for a Class B (car) license?
For a first-time Class B licence, you need 14 mandatory double lessons of 90 minutes: 12 double lessons of basic material and 2 double lessons of Class B material. If you already hold a licence and extend to Class B, the minimum is 6 double lessons of basic material plus 2 Class B double lessons. B96 and BE are not examples of this 6+2 rule; they follow their own training or examination routes.
What is the difference between core content and class-specific topics?
The core content covers topics 1–12 and deals with general traffic rules, right of way, speed and road behaviour. It is identical for all license classes. The class-specific topics are individual – for Class B these are topic 13 (technology) and topic 14 (solo vehicle driving). Motorcycle (Class A) has 4 additional topics, trucks (Class C) even 10.
Do I have to attend theory lessons in a specific order?
Lessons follow the published training plan. You can start with an offered topic and combine dates at different branches (Haidhausen, Giesing or Haar). Ask the driving school to check any content still open for your training status against your training record.
At which locations does theory class take place?
Peters Driving School currently offers theory classes at three locations: Haidhausen, Giesing and Haar. Baldham is in preparation; no theory dates have been released there. The motorcycle topics run as a course of two dates; the branch can differ per date – the location is shown with every date in the schedule. Truck topics are held in Haar only.
How long is a theory lesson?
Each mandatory double lesson shown in our schedule lasts 90 minutes. The German regulations also allow a 45-minute single lesson; our published schedule shows double lessons. Usually two dates are offered per evening – at 6:30 pm and 8:00 pm.
Can I attend theory class as an intensive course?
Yes, at Peters Driving School you can attend up to 8 mandatory double lessons per week by combining appointments at multiple branches. This allows you to attend the minimum scope of basic material in less than two weeks. More information is available on our intensive course page.
When can I take the theory exam?
Once you have attended the statutory scope and achieved the training objectives, the driving school can complete the theory training and coordinate the examination process with you. The exam can be taken at the earliest 3 months before reaching the minimum age. We recommend practising regularly with the learning app alongside your theory lessons.
What does theory class cost at Peters Driving School?
Theory classes are included in the base fee of your driver training – there are no additional costs per theory lesson. You can find the exact base fee for your licence class on our prices page or ask at any of our branches.
