Frequently asked questions about BKF training
What is BKF continuing education (FQN)?
The continuing education under the German BKrFQG is a legally required training for commercial truck and bus drivers. Every 5 years you must complete 35 hours to renew your driver qualification card (FQN) – colloquially called 'the 95'. Without it you may no longer drive commercially.
Do I have to take all 5 modules?
For the full 35 hours, yes – you need all 5 modules (7 hours each). However, you may spread the modules across several providers and time periods. If you have already completed 2 modules elsewhere, you only book the remaining 3 with us.
Can I take individual modules with different providers?
Yes, that is possible. Every recognised training centre reports your attendance electronically to the professional driver qualification register (BQR) of the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA). The licensing authority retrieves your modules from there – no matter how many providers you attended. Older paper certificates are attached to your application.
What do I need to bring to the course?
Please bring your ID card or passport. Writing materials are not required – we provide everything on site. Please arrive punctually at 08:00.
How is my attendance recorded?
We report your attendance to the BQR after each module; you also receive a certificate of attendance straight afterwards. Once all 35 hours are recorded, you apply at the KVR or district office for your new driver qualification card (FQN).
Does the training apply to truck and bus classes?
One round of continuing education applies to all of your licence classes that require it (§ 5 (4) BKrFQG) – you do not have to complete it twice. Our modules focus on freight transport (trucks).
Professional driver continuing education in Munich
When does my qualification expire?
The expiry date is shown in field 4b of your FQN Card (Driver Qualification Card). If you do not yet have a separate FQN, it is on the back of your driver license in field 12 after the "95". Plan ahead: the KVR Munich states a processing time of about twelve weeks for a new FQN.
Key Number 95 or FQN?
Since 23 May 2021, the key number 95 is no longer entered into the driver license. Instead, you receive a separate credit-card format ID: the Driver Qualification Card (FQN). An older 95 entry remains valid until it expires. Even if we all still speak of "the 95" in driver everyday life – the official authorities now refer to the FQN.
