Frequently asked questions about BKF training
What is BKF continuing education (FQN)?
The continuing education under the German BKrFQG is a legally required training for commercial truck and bus drivers. Every 5 years you must complete 35 hours to renew your driver qualification card (FQN) – colloquially called 'the 95'. Without it you may no longer drive commercially.
Do I have to take all 5 modules?
For the full 35 hours, yes – you need all 5 modules (7 hours each). However, you may spread the modules across several providers and time periods. If you have already completed 2 modules elsewhere, you only book the remaining 3 with us.
Can I take individual modules with different providers?
Yes, that is possible. After each module you receive a certificate of attendance. At the end you submit all 5 certificates to the driving licence authority to renew your FQN – no matter how many providers you attended.
What do I need to bring to the course?
Please bring your ID card or passport. Writing materials are not required – we provide everything on site. Please arrive punctually at 08:00.
Is the certificate of attendance valid immediately?
Yes, you receive the officially recognised certificate directly after each module. Once you have all 5 certificates together, you can apply at the KVR or district office for a new FQN card.
Does the FQN apply to truck and bus licenses?
Yes. The training covers both truck (class C/C1/CE/C1E) and bus (class D/D1/DE/D1E). The driver qualification card applies to both areas – you do not have to complete the modules twice.
Professional driver continuing education in Munich
When does my qualification expire?
You can find the expiration date on your current FQN Card (Driver Qualification Card). If you do not yet have a separate FQN, the date is on the back of your driver license in field 12 next to "95". Plan ahead: The issuance of the new card at the KVR Munich or District Office typically takes 4 to 6 weeks.
Key Number 95 or FQN?
Since May 2021, the key number 95 is generally no longer entered into the driver license. Instead, you receive a separate credit-card format ID: the Driver Qualification Card (FQN). Even if we all still speak of "the 95" in driver everyday life - the official authorities now only refer to the FQN.
