Coach (more than 8 passenger seats)
- →More than 8 seats excluding the driver (Section 6 FeV)

Minibus (max. 16 passenger seats, max. 8 m)
- →Up to 16 seats excluding the driver (Section 6 FeV)
- →Ideal for shuttle services & social organisations
- →Requires Class B licence as prerequisite
- →Vehicle length max. 8 m – there is no weight limit for D1

What You Need to Know
Requirements for
classes D and D1.
The bus licence is subject to special legal requirements. Here are the key points at a glance.
Minimum age class D
24 years; 23 with accelerated initial qualification, 21 with full initial qualification, 20 or 18 during vocational training (with restrictions) — Section 10 (1) no. 9 FeV
Minimum age class D1
21 years; 18 only during or after vocational training (professional driver, transport services specialist) — Section 10 (1) no. 8 FeV. There is no reduction via the initial qualification for D1.
If the age is reduced
an additional medical-psychological assessment is required (Section 10 (2) FeV)
Prerequisite
Class B driving licence
First Aid
First aid certificate (9 units)
Vision
Examination by a doctor, not an optician
Medical
Fitness certificate, max. 1 year old (Annex 5 no. 1 and 3 FeV)
Performance test
Resilience, orientation, concentration, attention and reaction (Annex 5 no. 2 FeV) — on renewal only from age 50
Initial qualification
Mandatory for commercial passenger transport (BKrFQG, driver qualification card)
Validity
5 years, then renewal required
