Honda CB 125 – your driving-school motorcycle for Class A1 in Munich

Sixteen years old and on two wheels for the very first time: you're sitting on the Honda CB125R, the engine is running, and Rosenheimer Strasse stretches out ahead. This is where our youngest students in Haidhausen begin their A1 licence. Light, honest, forgiving — this bike lets beginners make small mistakes without ever feeling out of control.

Why you learn in the Honda CB 125

The CB125R is our bike for the entry into two wheels at 16 — class A1, the earliest motorcycle licence you can take. Why this model? At roughly 130 kg ready-to-ride it's feather-light: you can push it backwards out of a parking spot without the weight getting the better of you, and that pays off in exactly the test exercises where slow manoeuvring matters most. The 11 kW (15 hp) are the legal maximum for A1, so you learn on the full permitted power rather than on a throttled-down toy. Our 16-year-olds quickly realise it's never about speed here — it's about clean clutch control, where you look, and balance at walking pace. That's precisely what the examiner checks. The CB125R takes the fear out of your first time on a bike and gives you the feeling that you genuinely have it under control.

Technology & equipment at a glance

Power 11 kW (15 hp) — the legal maximum for A1. You practise on the full permitted output with nothing artificially throttled, so the bike behaves in the test exactly as it did in training.
Displacement 125 cc single cylinder. Low vibration and a gentle throttle response — ideal for learning smooth clutch work at walking pace without stalling.
Kerb weight Only about 130 kg. You can push and tilt it effortlessly, which makes manoeuvring, putting it on the stand and the walking-pace test exercises far less stressful.
Standard seat height 816 mm. A classic beginner seat height — we start training here so you learn balance and a secure footing at the traffic light from day one.
Optional lowering Can be lowered by 4 cm to about 776 mm on request. For shorter students that means both feet firmly on the ground and more confidence when stopping — a real safety gain for the entry at 16.
Transmission Manual gearbox with clutch. In A1 you learn real gear changing — that skill carries straight over when you later step up to A2 or A, so nothing has to be relearned.

Assistance systems are a learning aid – you take the exam yourself.

What you may drive

On the CB125R you take class A1: motorcycles up to 125 cc and max 11 kW, ridable from age 16. If you already hold a car licence (class B), the B196 extension lets you ride the same 125s within Germany — no separate test, but mandatory lessons required. The CB125R covers both routes. Note: B197 relates to car training (the manual/automatic logbook entry) and has nothing to do with this 125 class.

Locations & test area Munich East

Walking pace through the 30 km/h zone around Wiener Platz in Haidhausen: cobblestones, cars parked on the left, a pedestrian stepping out between two vans. This is exactly where the light CB125R proves its worth — you keep the bike balanced, look well ahead and brake under control instead of wobbling.

Locations: Haidhausen (Rosenheimer Str. 86), Giesing (Grünwalder Str. 12) & Haar (Münchener Str. 13).

Frequently asked questions

From what age can I ride the Honda CB125R?

From 16 with class A1 — the earliest motorcycle licence in Germany, which is exactly why this light CB125R is our standard bike for the entry at 16. With a car licence (B) plus the B196 extension you may also ride it within Germany without A1.

I'm fairly short — will my feet reach the ground?

In most cases yes. Standard seat height is 816 mm, and if needed we can lower the CB125R by 4 cm to about 776 mm. We start training at standard height and only lower it if you'd feel safer when stopping — a real confidence boost, especially for the entry at 16.
