Honda CB 750 Hornet – your driving-school motorcycle for Class A / A2 in Munich
Picture your first left turn out of the Giesing yard: you settle onto the Honda CB750 Hornet, both feet flat on the ground, the wide bar upright in your hands. No nervous twitch, just a naked bike that does exactly what you ask of it. That is precisely what this machine is here for.
Why you learn in the Honda CB 750 Hornet
What riders notice fast on the Hornet: a naked bike forgives beginner mistakes because nothing hides or distracts you. The upright seating gives you a clear view over junctions and lets you do mirror-and-shoulder checks in one smooth move — invaluable while you are still drilling the choreography of the class A test. The real point for many learners: the CB750 Hornet can be restricted to A2. You start out with reduced power, build your handling, lean angle and braking in calm steps, then later ride the very same machine de-restricted without adapting to a whole new bike. The full 92 PS becomes a goal, not a stumbling block. You are not learning on a toy, nor on something oversized — you are on a full-grown naked bike that grows with you.
Technology & equipment at a glance
| Power | 92 PS (67.5 kW) from 755 cc in the open class A version. Key for learning: this Hornet restricts to A2, so you build throttle control at the power level that matches your licence. |
| Naked bike layout | No fairing, upright posture, wide bar. You get direct steering feel and an open all-round view — ideal for practising shoulder checks and lane changes cleanly. |
| Weight | About 192 kg ready to ride. Light enough to hold confidently at a standstill and when manoeuvring — exactly the basic exercises tested first. |
| Seat height | 795 mm as standard. We lowered our Hornet by 4 cm to about 755 mm so shorter riders also stand firmly with both feet at the lights. |
| Displacement | 755 cc twin. Enough pull from low revs so you are not chasing the redline when pulling away on a hill or in city traffic. |
| A2 restriction | Restrictable to 35 kW and therefore A2-compliant. You can ride your first lessons restricted and later continue de-restricted without changing bikes. |
Assistance systems are a learning aid – you take the exam yourself.
What you may drive
We run the CB750 Hornet in the direct class A. Because it restricts to 35 kW, it also qualifies for A2 — you can start on the same bike and step up to the open version after two years. It does not cover A1 or AM; smaller machines are available for those. It is a geared bike, so clutch and gears are part of the learning here.
Locations & test area Munich East
In the Munich-East test area we like to practise the Trudering roundabout on the Hornet: heavy commuter traffic, several exits, constant shoulder checks. This is exactly where the upright naked-bike posture pays off — you take in the whole roundabout and exit calmly instead of crouching over the tank.
Locations: Haidhausen (Rosenheimer Str. 86), Giesing (Grünwalder Str. 12) & Haar (Münchener Str. 13).
Frequently asked questions
Can I ride the Honda CB750 Hornet on an A2 licence?
Yes. The Hornet restricts to 35 kW and is therefore A2-compliant. You train restricted and, once the A2 period is over, can ride the same machine de-restricted at 92 PS — without getting used to a new bike.
Isn't the Hornet too much bike for a beginner?
No. As a naked bike with an upright posture, around 192 kg and our lowering to about 755 mm, it is very manageable. Restricted in A2 mode you build handling and confidence step by step before the full power comes into play.
