IVECO Eurocargo – your driving-school truck for Class C in Munich
For the first time you're sitting over three metres up, eight metres of vehicle stretch out ahead, and on a right turn the rear swings out wider than you'd expect. This is exactly where truck driving begins: reading your size, judging the swing area, building air pressure in the brakes. Our Iveco Eurocargo turns that respect into routine.
Why you learn in the IVECO Eurocargo
What our learner drivers grasp first in the Eurocargo is space. 8.01 m long, 2.55 m wide and 3.55 m high stop being abstract numbers the moment you manoeuvre at a Munich junction: the rear swings out as you turn, the height decides every underpass, the width every tight gap. That's why you practise the swing area until you carry it in your mirrors and in your head. The second big topic is the dual-line air brake with ABS. Unlike a car, here air does the braking, not just your hydraulic foot pressure – you build reservoir pressure, understand the system, and during the walk-around check you test for leaks, pressure and function before you move off. The digital tachograph, your driving and rest times, the full 360-degree look: all of this is part of the test, and all of it you drive and check yourself. The camera and cruise control are everyday aids – the responsibility for size and brakes stays with you.
Technology & equipment at a glance
| Engine & power | 252 hp from 6,728 cc. At 12 t total mass you learn to accelerate with foresight and pick the right gear early on a hill – the examiner watches for smooth, fuel-efficient driving. |
| Dimensions & height | L 8.01 m, W 2.55 m, H 3.55 m. These three figures define your swing area, every clearance height and every tight spot – judging your size is the core skill you train here. |
| Brake system | Dual-line air brake with ABS. You build up reservoir pressure and check sealing and function during the walk-around – mandatory content you explain and demonstrate yourself in the test. |
| Total mass | 12 t permissible total mass. That's the threshold where category C applies – and why braking distance, hill starts and cornering behave completely differently from a van. |
| Reversing camera | Camera system for the rear blind spot. A learning aid when manoeuvring – you still practise mirror setup, the shoulder check and being guided, because you reverse yourself. |
| Digital tachograph | Digital tachograph recording driving and rest times. Operation and social regulations belong to the professional driver's world – you learn them here from the start in the real vehicle. |
Assistance systems are a learning aid – you take the exam yourself.
What you may drive
The tractor unit alone (12 t total mass) is category C – everything over 3.5 t up to its towing limit. Add the tandem centre-axle trailer (11.9 t total mass, built 2020) and it becomes the road train for category CE. B197 doesn't apply here: that's a car gearbox rule; trucks are learned and tested on a manual anyway.
Locations & test area Munich East
Turning right off Rosenheimer Strasse into the narrow side street toward Haidhausen: you deliberately pull forward a little further, check the rear swing area in the main mirror and the cyclists beside you in the wide-angle – only when both are clear do you steer in. This interplay of size and 360-degree awareness is exactly what you practise in München-Ost traffic.
Locations: Haidhausen (Rosenheimer Str. 86), Giesing (Grünwalder Str. 12) & Haar (Münchener Str. 13).
Frequently asked questions
Why do I have to do a walk-around check before every drive in the Iveco Eurocargo?
Because the dual-line air brake works with reservoir pressure: you check pressure build-up, sealing and function, plus tyres, lights and load securing. In the practical test you demonstrate exactly this and explain it – that's why we practise it from the very first lesson on the real vehicle.
How do I learn to judge the swing area of an 8-metre vehicle?
Through repetition in real traffic: at 8.01 m long the rear swings out when you turn. You practise choosing your lane early, watching the rear in the mirror, and factoring in the 3.55 m height at every underpass – until size and swing become second nature.
