Piaggio eZip 50 – your driving-school motorcycle for Class AM in Munich
Key turned, a gentle twist of the throttle — and instead of a clatter, just a quiet hum. The Piaggio eZip 50 rolls silently off the kerb into Munich traffic. No gears, no stalling. That calm first moment is exactly where many of our learners realise: riding a scooter is something you can actually learn.
Why you learn in the Piaggio eZip 50
The eZip 50 is our entry vehicle for class AM — and for good reason: it takes away exactly the things that stress beginners. Twist-and-go means you turn the throttle and go, no clutch, no gear selection. That frees your head for what really matters in the test: looking ahead, the shoulder check, holding your lane. What our learners quickly appreciate about the electric drive: with no engine noise distracting you, you hear the traffic around you far more clearly — the car coming from behind, the cyclist on your right. The low weight of roughly 85 kilos makes manoeuvring at a standstill and lifting it off the kerb easy, which builds confidence in those very first exercises. The electric motor's linear acceleration is easy to meter — you learn smooth pull-aways without a nervous torque kick catching you off guard.
Technology & equipment at a glance
| Drivetrain | Electric motor with approx. 1.2 kW continuous output — no vibration, no idling. You practise pulling away purely through the throttle and learn to meter the power with feeling. |
| Transmission | Twist-and-go, automatic — no clutch, no gears. The most common beginner hurdle (stalling) falls away entirely, so you focus on your gaze and steering. |
| Design-limited top speed | 45 km/h — that is the AM limit and your speed cap in the test too. You learn to move with city traffic without ever going too fast. |
| Seat height / weight | 770 mm seat height, approx. 85 kg incl. battery — both feet reach the ground securely, and the light weight makes manoeuvring and putting it on the stand effortless. That gives stability when stopping at a light. |
| Range | Up to 55 km in ECO mode — more than enough for a full practice lesson through Munich East, with no fuel worries to distract you. |
| Storage | Large under-seat compartment (room for a full-visor helmet). Handy for practice: helmet and gloves are safely stowed before you set off — a good pre-ride check habit. |
Assistance systems are a learning aid – you take the exam yourself.
What you may drive
On the eZip 50 you ride for class AM — the class for mopeds up to 45 km/h. In Germany you can obtain it from age 15, and it is already included in many higher classes such as A1 or B. There is no B197 rule here: B197 only concerns manual-gearbox competence in a car. On the scooter, all that counts is that you handle AM safely — and with the automatic drive, that is exactly the focus.
Locations & test area Munich East
Picture the junction on Rosenheimer Strasse, right by our Haidhausen branch: you wait at the light, foot down, the scooter completely silent. It turns green — a clean shoulder check to the left, then a quiet pull-off towards Wiener Platz. That calm merge into city traffic is exactly what we practise with you until it feels natural.
Locations: Haidhausen (Rosenheimer Str. 86), Giesing (Grünwalder Str. 12) & Haar (Münchener Str. 13).
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to shift gears or use a clutch on the e-scooter?
No. The eZip 50 is a pure twist-and-go automatic scooter — you turn the throttle and ride. There is no clutch and no gears, so the whole shifting topic falls away for the AM test and you can focus fully on traffic and looking ahead.
Is the range enough for a full driving lesson?
Yes. In ECO mode the eZip manages up to 55 km — that easily covers a full practice session through Munich East. So during the lesson you only think about riding, not about charging.
