BMW i4 M60 Elektro – your driving school car for Class B in Munich
You climb in, press Start - and nothing happens. No cranking, no vibration, just the silent readiness of nearly 600 hp behind the curved display. Lift off the brake and the i4 M60 glides away without a sound. Right here, in that very first moment, a completely new way of driving begins - electric, controlled, impossible to stall.
Why you learn in the BMW i4 M60 Elektro
What our learners feel in the i4 M60 right away: there is no clutch, no biting point, no gear lever to throw you off. The electric drive pulls away smoothly and without shifting - your head stays free for what actually matters: mirrors, shoulder check, reading traffic. Our red thread in this car is recuperation. Lift off the accelerator and the car already brakes on its own while feeding energy back into the battery. That trains the anticipatory driving examiners love to see: ease off early, roll in gently instead of stamping the brake at the last second. The nearly 600 hp are no toy here - they teach you control. Treat the power pedal with feeling and you have understood that control matters more than raw force. Stalling on a hill? Impossible in the i4. You learn to move off without stress.
Technology & equipment at a glance
| Drivetrain | 100% electric, dual-motor all-wheel drive (xDrive) - torque arrives instantly at all four wheels, so moving off is always even and predictable, perfect for practice. |
| Transmission | Single-speed automatic with no shifting - no clutch, no biting point. You focus fully on traffic and observation instead of gears. |
| Recuperation | Brakes as you lift off and recovers energy - it trains you to anticipate and ease off early, exactly the style examiners want to see. |
| Power | Nearly 600 hp (approx. 440 kW) - not a reason to floor it but a lesson in fine modulation. Moving off gently with this much power proves real control. |
| Assistance | Driving Assistant Professional, automatic emergency braking and a 360-degree camera support learning and parking - but you drive the exam yourself, they are only your safety net. |
| Cockpit | BMW Curved Display with iDrive - speed, range and navigation always in view, getting you used to clear digital readouts without distraction. |
Assistance systems are a learning aid – you take the exam yourself.
What you may drive
The i4 M60 is a Category B car. Because it is pure automatic, the German B197 rule applies: you train and take parts of the exam in the automatic i4, yet with the additional manual-competence assessment you keep an unrestricted licence that also covers manual cars. So you enjoy the relaxed electric start without being limited to automatics only.

Locations & test area Munich East
Picture the long downhill from Rosenheimer Strasse heading toward Ramersdorf. Instead of tapping the brake again and again, in the i4 you simply lift off the accelerator - recuperation holds your speed cleanly and the car rolls in a controlled line toward the lights. That calm, anticipatory approach is exactly what convinces in the Munich-East test area.
Locations: Haidhausen (Rosenheimer Str. 86), Giesing (Grünwalder Str. 12) & Haar (Münchener Str. 13).
Frequently asked questions
If I learn in the BMW i4, am I also allowed to drive manual cars?
Yes. The i4 is automatic, but we train under B197: with the additional manual-competence test you receive a full Category B licence with no automatic restriction, so you may drive manuals afterwards too.
Aren't nearly 600 hp far too much for a beginner?
In lessons you drive the i4 gently and measured - you never need the full power. That is the whole point: you practise moving off smoothly and under control even with a lot of power on tap, rather than chasing it.
