Kawasaki Z 650 S – your driving-school motorcycle for Class A2 in Munich

Seat fitting in Giesing: you stand beside the Z 650 S, swing your leg over – and both feet rest flat on the tarmac. That one moment takes the fear out of a first motorcycle for many riders. We lowered this bike on purpose for shorter riders, so that height is never the reason you hold back from going for the A licence.

Why you learn in the Kawasaki Z 650 S

Our running theme on this bike is the lowering – and that is real learning support, not marketing. Stock seat height is 805 mm; we brought the chassis down to roughly 755 mm, a good 5 cm lower. Why that matters for learning: at a red light and when you manoeuvre at walking pace, both feet reach the ground securely – and a rider who stands securely stops tensing up and steers more cleanly. Those slow manoeuvres are exactly what the practical exam is built on: slalom, the circle, stop-and-go. Add the kerb weight of 190 kg, one of the most manageable bikes in its class. With the 649 cc inline-twin you get to know the power in measured doses, without weight or height intimidating you. In short: you train technique instead of compensating for your body height. You ride the exam yourself in the end – but from lesson one on a motorcycle that actually fits you.

Technology & equipment at a glance

Seat height Lowered from a stock 805 mm to about 755 mm (−5 cm). This is the core advantage: both feet firmly down, so you stop and manoeuvre relaxed instead of balancing on tiptoes.
Weight 190 kg ready to ride – one of the most manageable bikes in its class. Low weight means lifting off the side stand, pushing and correcting at a standstill all come easier, especially while learning.
Engine 649 cc inline-twin with smooth power delivery. The even output is easy to meter – ideal for practising throttle response and the clutch friction point cleanly, without jerky reactions.
Power & A2 restriction 50.2 kW (68 hp) stock, restricted to 35 kW (48 hp) for A2 training. So you learn and take the exam within the rules and stay inside the A2 power limit.
Ergonomics Chassis specially set up for shorter riders. Sit relaxed and you look further ahead and react sooner – so vision technique and anticipatory riding come more easily from the start.
Standing stability Low seating plus low weight. In the slow mandatory exercises – slalom, figure-eight, walking pace – secure ground contact gives you the calm for clean lines.

Assistance systems are a learning aid – you take the exam yourself.

What you may drive

On the Z 650 S (restricted to 35 kW for A2) you train for class A2: motorcycles up to 35 kW, minimum age 16. After two years on A2 you can step up to the open class A without repeating the full practical basic training. If you already hold A1 (125 cc, 11 kW), you know the next rung – the Z 650 S is exactly that bridge upward.

Locations & test area Munich East

Stop-and-go on Grünwalder Strasse toward Giesing station: light, stop, short jam, roll on again. On the lowered Z 650 S you plant both feet flat at every red, keep the bike steady and pull away cleanly on green – instead of wobbling on tiptoes.

Locations: Haidhausen (Rosenheimer Str. 86), Giesing (Grünwalder Str. 12) & Haar (Münchener Str. 13).

Frequently asked questions

I'm quite short – will my feet really reach the ground?

That's exactly why we lowered this Z 650 S by about 5 cm to roughly 755 mm seat height. Many shorter riders stand with both feet down securely for the first time. Best is to come for a seat fitting in Giesing, Haar or Haidhausen and try it yourself.

Isn't the Z 650 S with 68 hp too powerful for the A2 licence?

Stock it makes 50.2 kW (68 hp), but for A2 training it's restricted to the permitted 35 kW (48 hp). So you learn and take the exam within the class rules – and the smooth inline-twin is easy to meter.
